I grew up as an unathletic kid. My mother was unathletic, so she
just assumed I was too. You see, our family has weak ankles and
no coordination. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I realized
that all this was a lie. I wasn’t unathletic - I just hated team
sports. I discovered I actually had a flair for dance, which
takes quite a bit of athleticism and coordination. Weak ankles?
Of course they’re weak if you don’t do anything to build up
their strength. A lot of the physical deficiencies that I
thought I’d inherited were really born out of laziness and blind
acceptance - those were the real deficiencies. Once I worked on
overcoming those, my body got stronger and I started enjoying
physical activities.
On the positive side, we don’t have weight problems in our
family. As a matter of fact, my dad’s weight is within 10 pounds
of what he weighed in high school. Is that due to genetics? Not
really. We’re just very moderate in our eating habits. More than
once I’ve visited friends whose relatives were on the plus side
and found that their meals were also plus sized. What am I
trying to say here? Maybe you won’t like this, but I’m trying to
pull the security blanket called “blame” out of your grasp. It’s
necessary if you ever want to make any changes in your life. You
have to let go so your hands are open to receive new ideas,
information and attitudes.
It’s a favorite family game to blame genetics for a lot of
problems. Weight issues, weak knees, heart disease, fallen
arches - if you’ve got it, chances are so does someone else in
your family. People often assume that means it - whatever “it”
happens to be - is hereditary. And yes, certain conditions
are hereditary. Heart disease and obesity do run in
families and doctors do find genetic links. But not always. And
there are also times when a family’s lifestyle choices can make
a genetic condition worse. So before assuming you are destined
to suffer from any particular physical affliction just because
your father or grandmother did, examine family habits. They’re
just as telling as genetics.
One of the easiest habits to dissect is eating habits. Every
family has its own approach to food, and it is often handed down
from generation to generation. What types of meals run in your
family? How big are the portions? Does your family serve up
hefty amounts of meat and potatoes? Are comfort foods like
macaroni and cheese frequent visitors to the dining table? Are
there a lot of chips or homemade cookies available all the time
for snacking, and do most meals end with a rich dessert? Then
it’s no surprise if many of your family members might have a
weight or cholesterol problem. While nothing can match the taste
of your mother’s home cooking, you may have inherited some poor
eating habits along with the heirloom recipes. Consider creating
light versions of those rich recipes, cutting down on those huge
portions of mashed potatoes and adding more vegetables to the
dinner plate (and to lunch too, for that matter). There are many
ways to lean down your menu without completely forsaking family
fare.
What other habits run in your family? Do any of your relatives
smoke or drink excessively? Do most of them turn into couch
potatoes once they get out of school? These are sure setups for
health problems later in life. While it’s tough enough to quit a
bad habit like smoking (it’s really better to never start at
all), it may be even tougher to begin a good habit and stick to
it. The effort is worthwhile, however - regular exercise lowers
your risk of developing, among other things, heart disease,
obesity, diabetes and osteoporosis. If any of these diseases run
in your family, it should be a good incentive to get moving.
Exercise will enhance your health, no matter what type of
genetics you may have been born with.
Perhaps the most insidious family trait is mental attitude. If
you come from a family that, as a whole, presents a youthful,
positive attitude towards life, you are probably the same way.
On the other hand, if the older members of your family seem to
age prematurely, or if they let life drag them down, then it’s
possible their attitudes are dragging you down, too. A negative
mental attitude is one of the hardest habits to break away from
- to do so requires a high level of awareness. If you observe
your family and yourself for a while you’ll realize that you are
all talking yourselves into certain behaviors. Someone who
blames his aches and pains on “getting old” is actually giving
himself permission to have those aches and pains since it is
impossible to stop time. If the same person decides to take up
Yoga to deal with, say, morning stiffness or minor back pain, he
is taking control of the situation and being an active
participant in his wellbeing. When it comes to your health - and
many other aspects of life - it’s important to think actively.
To think passively is to give up, to find excuses to be less
active, less of a participant in life. We all have limitations,
of course, but how do we know what our limits are if we don’t
test them? And the only way to test them is to first drop your
preconceived notions of what is and what isn’t.
All of us carry some sort of baggage left over from the
atmosphere we grew up in. That doesn’t mean you should
disinherit your family - you no doubt inherited quite a few good
qualities and values from them too - but do disinherit the bad
habits and negative mental attitudes that may have been handed
down through the generations. No matter where you come from,
ultimately you create your own destiny. Taking charge of your
wellbeing and your life could even rub off on some of your
relatives, creating a legacy you can be proud of.

With the rising costs of fuel and oil, it may be wise to consider alternative means to fuel homes. One environmentally sound solution would be to consider home solar power. Several thousand of homes currently are enjoying the use of solar power in their home.
Solar power provides an effective cost saving strategy to the household budget.
The down fall is that it can be quite expensive, this is because the wiring is a bit different than traditional means of heating and this leads to additional costs. To offset those costs some states offer a tax credit. And, if you produce more electricity than you use, you can sell the extra power back to your local services. Check online to verify if your state receives additional tax credits for home solar power.
Solar power is a great means for finding environmentally safe means of heating homes and generating energy to run appliances. This can be done through solar panels, wind generators, power centers or even package systems. Home solar power is your investment to saving money and taking steps to improve the environment. You will want to investigate what type of solar power generating device would work best for you and your home.

Wi Fi Fo Fum, I think I smell the blood…oops wrong tale. This story doesn’t involve giants, but it does involve giant leaps forward in technology that will affect us all.
The other day I was watching two kids play. Each had a tin can up to their ear and they were speaking to each other on the ‘phone’. Talk about technological leaps. Yes, the string that I used as a kid to hook up this intricate communication system had disappeared, and they were now wireless!
When I was Batman back then, the string always kept me close enough to Robin so we could hear each other, even around the corner of a cinder block wall. Unrestricted by ‘the magic string’ these kids tended to drift out of range from time to time. Showing true genius, they engaged Billy’s little brother to position himself on middle ground, and he relayed wireless messages back and forth. They called him ‘tower’. I laughed.
It really is a reflection of a changing world. We’ve gone from HiFi to Wi-Fi, and next on the endless chain is WiMax. The transition from ‘High Fidelity’, which simply related to sound quality, to ‘Wireless Fidelity’ or Wi-Fi, took about thirty-eleven years. The transition to WiMax is already in play, yet most of us haven’t figured out what Wi-Fi is really all about.
According to the ‘Webopedia’, the term is promulgated by the Wi-Fi Alliance, and is short for Wireless Fidelity as I indicated above. What it means is that you can access the Internet from a laptop computer with the right stuff (wireless card) in various locations without the burden of a physical wire.
Hold it - Webopedia? Yikes! Yes, it’s real, and it defines and explains web ’stuff’. I guess Babe Ruth probably thought that Encyclopedias were on the bleeding edge, yet I wrote my 7th grade essay all about him using that standard, great source of knowledge. Makes you wonder what ‘pedia’ is next doesn’t it?
It goes on to say that any products tested and approved as Wi-Fi certified (a registered trademark) by the Wi-Fi Alliance are certified as interoperable with each other, even if from different manufacturers.
That’s kind of like Fords & Toyotas use the same gas to make them go, and their owners use the same ramps and highways to pick up milk, or go to the cottage. Even Hudson Hornets used a leaded version of the same fuel.
An example where this wasn’t so well planned is the access to the electricity grids in Europe as opposed to North America. The same plugs don’t work in both places.
Rather than making that mistake, the Alliance has created an accepted standard so that manufacturers create equipment, and the like, that can be used in a similar fashion to access the web. That means that your laptop, regardless of brand, will use the same ‘hot-spots’ to get access. Hot-spots are areas where the facility, like Starbucks or the hotel that owns the lobby, has put in the proper equipment to provide access from your wireless card to the great big cloud called the Internet. The wireless card is the gas for the Fords & Toyotas, and the hot-spot is the on ramp.
And therein lie both the beauty and the problem. The beauty is that I can access the web from Starbucks in Atlanta, as well as a hotel lobby in Vancouver. If you’ve ever seen someone doing the hippy-hippy shake with their computer in their hands, you’re probably witnessing the problem. Wi-Fi access is limited in both speed and distance. The twisting person was probably trying to get a more consistent signal in the ‘hot-spot’.
Enter WiMax. That’s not Max Smart and his wireless shoe communications, but it is the next generation of Wi-Fi. According to WiMaxxed.com it “will connect you to the Internet at faster speeds and from much longer ranges than current wireless technology allows.” They go on to say “WiMax promises up to a ten mile range without wires, and broadband speeds without cable or T1.”
The result - we are absolved from the penance of viewing way too many hippy-hippy shakes. Well, not so fast, don’t throw out your dancin’ shoes quite yet. It’s not on the Wal-Mart shelves for next Christmas, but there are a lot of indicators that it’s real, and it’s just around the corner.
First of all, it is an acronym for Worldwide Interoperability For Microwave Access, and it has actually been in the works for quite a while now. An article titled ‘FCC Move Could Boost WiMax’, states “A number of vendors and carriers have announced products, testing, or support for the standard in the last month, including Intel, Nokia, AT&T, BellSouth, Sprint, and Motorola.” These companies aren’t akin to Duke’s Pool Room - these are the big boys.
The article continues to say, “Congress has been lobbied for months now to free more frequencies for wireless broadband.”
AlcaTel states that WiMax will “bridge the digital divide by delivering broadband in low-density areas.” If you really study that statement, you can see where we are in the world today. Where governments once ensured that all residents were able to receive phone service in the Ma Bell days, that lingo is now being used in relation to broadband access to the Internet. May everybody have equal access is the refrain, but only if it’s high speed!
So instead of hot-spot hopping, WiMax will provide true wireless mobility. And there’s more. In an article by Al Senia of America’s Network, he states that ‘Phone manufacturers such as Samsung and LG are expected to introduce Wi-Fi handsets compatible with this service by year’s end.”
O.K., so that’s VoIP, except it’s wireless VoIP in hot-spots. Next is WiMax, with wide-area wireless VoIP.
To be sure, there are quality and security issues to be resolved, whether that’s for surfing, voice applications, or a gazillion other Internet applications, before wider market acceptance is achieved. However, I attended a recent presentation by the Gartner Group, where the presenter stated emphatically that security is not an ‘if’ but rather ‘how much’. His meaning was clearly that the level of security required for business applications will be achieved, and that commercial providers will find the economic model that works. Ditto for quality.
We used to trade information at the speed of the Pony Express, when the air was just filled with farm smells. Now when the air is filled with zeros and ones, information is transferred at speeds faster than Clark Kent. If we’re to remain on competitive even ground, we had better pay attention to these applications that are on the horizon. We have to assume that our competitors are paying attention.
It took a century to transform from Alexander Bell’s basic invention to wireless phones. However, in the last decade alone, the Internet has met with wide acceptance by business, VoIP has become more common, Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi VoIP is now a reality, and WiMax and wide area wireless VoIP is very nearly on the market.
In the past, I’ve often used an example of future possibilities by alluding to a chip in our eyebrows that can transmit holographic images around the globe. That’s not even that far-fetched anymore, so I guess I’ll have to come up with a better example. I’m going to have to track down the Jetsons and Star Trek reruns.
“Grandpa, why is the sky blue?” That’s always been a puzzler. What on earth are you going to say when the question is “Grandpa, why is the sky zeros and ones?” That’s when you ask yourself, “Wi me?”
That begs another question. Where do all the zeros and ones go when they’re used up? Is there a big Z&O dump somewhere? Or should that be backwards - OZ. Oh, that Wizard, I knew he was up to something.

Here’s a favorite tradition of our family in outdoor Halloween decor:
RING OF GHOSTS
Materials:
3 Twin-sized Sheets
3 Four foot lengths of flexible 1/2 inch PVC Piping, Wooden Stakes or Dowels
3 Small White Plastic Garbage Bags
Masking Tape
Newspaper
String or Twist Ties
Black Marker (optional)
Instructions:
1. First, determine a good location for your ghost gathering. Find a wide open area, or you may decide to group them around a tree or light pole.
2. To make the ghosts’ heads, crumple up newspaper and stuff the three small plastic trash bags to the desired size.
3. Stick one of the PVC pipes into one of the bags and wrap the neck with masking tape to secure. Repeat for the other ghosts.
5. Cover each ghost head with a sheet, gathering with string or a twist tie under each head. The head should be in the middle of the sheet, so the outer edges can be attached to the neighboring ghosts.
You can make taller or shorter ghosts, but you must adjust the size of sheet you use to accommodate. Our ghosts will be just under 4 feet tall.
4. Push the PVC piping into the ground in a circular formation about 1-2 feet apart. The sheets should touch the ground and cover up the support. You can also use wooden stakes or dowels, but your ghosts won’t have as much movement as they will with the PVC piping.
6. Finally, knot the ends of the sheets together to give the impression the ghosts are holding hands. Because the PVC is flexible, your ghosts will now bob and sway in the wind!
7. If desired, make Casper-like faces on the sheets with black marker.
We have 3 children, so we always make 3 ghosts, but you can connect as many ghosts as you wish!
They’ll look like they’re playing a spooky game of “ring-around-the-rosy”!
FLAGPOLE SPOOKS
These spooky decorations are easy if you have an angled flagpole attached to the front of your house.
Scary Flagpole Ghost: Hang a “Scream” style mask off the end of the flagpole. Tie a white sheet or a generous length of white tulle around and behind the mask. This scary creature will appear to be flying as his white garment flutters in the wind.
Flagpole Frankenstein: Hang a Frankenstein mask off the end of the flagpole. Tie a dark colored trash bag tied behind it. Shredding the trash bag around the edges will add to the spooky effect.
Flagpole Witch: Hang a witch mask off the end of the flagpole. Attach a witch hat to the mask, then tie a dark colored trash bag tied behind it. Shred the trash bag to make the witch’s robe flap in the wind.

The super footwear made in Australia has swept this country by storm.
However, along with great popularity, as Hollywood stars of all ages have been seen wearing these comfortable shoes, also comes super high prices.
By a quick Internet search, you will be able to find extremely discounted shoes, slippers, and boots that are a fraction of their steep original sales price.
Finding a pair of uggs at discount boots websites is not difficult, and a quick and easy search will save you a great deal of money.
When searching for uggs on discount boots websites, first consider the website itself. If the site is offering shoes, slippers, or boots at too good of a price, be warnedthey might be counterfeit!
Most online stores are legitimate and will provide you with authentic products, but there are some that will prey on unsuspecting patrons.
The best way to find a pair of inexpensive Australian made footwear is to search for after the season sales.
These discounts will enable you to find quality footwear that are guaranteed to be authentic.
Online stores are excellent methods of finding these ultra popular boots at inexpensive prices.
Another way to find boots, shoes, and slippers for much less than in stores is to search internet auction sites.
Again, be aware of anyone selling suspicious merchandise that may potentially be counterfeited.
Since you can wear your shoes, boots, or slippers all season long, you will get the most use out of your new footwear.
If you do decide to purchase footwear from internet stores or auctions, be completely aware of any return policies enforced by the store.
If your new shoes do not fit or you are not satisfied with your purchase, knowing these policies will be able to assist you greatly in receiving a refund or return.
You may need to check into a internet store or websites auction before you decide to purchase to ensure the seller is reputable.

Get your computer protected from intruders who look to take advantage of you and your unknowing ways online you can find all your different types of malware online and they will work for the most. But if you are not sure where to go or what kind of program you want then you need to think about going to different forums on or about malware that people have already been to and commented about, this will give you a great start. Such software monitors computer activity and saves the report in special files so that the parents can later check it out and make conclusions.
It seems that this technique is actually a separate scam aimed at stealing personal information and such attacks are on the rise. Tsunami is a Japanese term that describes a large seismically generated sea wave which is capable of considerable destruction in certain coastal areas, especially where underwater earthquakes occur.
In Japanese, “Tsunami” means “Harbor Wave” or “Wave In The Harbor” It is now internationally accepted as the term that defines a “Seismic Seawave.”
In South America, the term “Maremoto” is frequently used to describe a Tsunami.
Tsunami is pronounced: (sue-NAM-ee)
Tsunami’s have been incorrectly referred to as “tidal waves.” A tidal wave is a non-technical term for a shallow water wave caused by the gravitational interactions between the Sun, Moon, and Earth (high water is the crest of a tidal wave and low water is the trough).
Tsunami’s are formed by a displacement of water. This can come from the slippage of the boundaries between two tectonic plates, volcanic eruption, under-water earthquake, or even landslides.
Out in the open ocean, Tsunami’s might only be 1 meter in height, but as it reaches the shore in shallow water, it can rise to heights of 15-30 meters or more. Think about how a normal wave comes into a shore: the water moves away from the shore and then comes crashing back. This movement “heightens” the destruction power of a Tsunami.
Tsunami’s can also reach speeds ranging from 400 to 500+ miles per hour… about the same speed as a jet airliner.
The enormous energy that a Tsunami can possess allows it to travel across entire oceans. They often proceed as an ordinary gravity wave… having a 15 to 60 minute intervals.
From a destruction perspective, Tsunami’s have cost not hundreds of thousands, but millions of human lives over the recorded history of Earth.

A friendship poem:
Choose friends wisely, the portrait they paint
Is who you are and who you ain’t.
Friendship is life’s great support
When friends are of the right sort.
For all your dreams do they make room,
Or bring you down with doom and gloom?
You will know a friendship is true
When it brings out the best in you..
It’s true. You can tell a person by the company she keeps. Our friendships not only tell a lot about who we are — they make us who we are.
The friendship poem above says it all. You will know a friendship is true when it brings out the best in you.
Take a look at your friendships. Do they bring out the best in you? That might seem like a silly question. We all tend to think, “Of course they bring out the best in me. I wouldn’t be friends with them otherwise.”
But stop and think why you are friends. Here are a few common reasons why people become friends:
- Common background, sharing a comfort level in company from “the same side of the tracks”.
- Common current situation, being able to discuss parenting, home renovations, or some other major life circumstance.
- Common interest, such as cards, bowling, hunting, etc.
- For shy people, a person who actually approached you is a candidate for friendship.
- For leaders, somebody who seems content to follow is a likely candidate.
- Somebody you spend time with anyway, such as a colleague, sibling, etc, often becomes a friend.
- Somebody you see frequently anyway, such as a neighbor, store clerk, etc, could become a friend.
These are just a few reasons people choose friends. It is the easy, natural way, but it is not always in our best interest. Sure, we should always want to get along with colleagues, neighbors, siblings, and anybody else.
But we should choose our friends, the people we open up to, very carefully. For instance, even a sibling can bring you down, pooh-pooh your dreams and load you up with negativity. “Ha! You think you can teach? What do you know about teaching?”
Even well-meaning friends can be dream-slashers. “Oh, do you really think you should go into business for yourself? I mean, what about security?”
On the other hand, some friends have a way of building up your dreams. “Go for it! You could really do well. And at worst, you’ll at least have given it your best shot!”
Friends will often lend a hand. “Gee, I don’t know much about fitness, but is there any way I can help you reach your goal?” Dream-slashers usually don’t. “Hey, if you insist on pursuing this crazy scheme, leave me out of it.”
A true friendship should:
- Encourage you to live your dream.
- Support you toward your goals.
- Sympathize for your losses and help you find a silver lining.
- Build your self-esteem.
If happiness and life-satisfaction are your goals, your friends should be chosen on the basis of how well they can accomplish those four goals.
Happiness is a personal choice that comes from within. But it sure doesn’t hurt to have supportive friendships that help us achieve our goals.

Strategic search engine optimization involves far more than
keyword research, META tags and content. If you want to mange an
SEO program, you need to be aware of any issue that can affect
your success. Domain name management is one of the big factors.
Effective domain name management is critical because you could
end up getting banned from Google and other search engines if
you take the wrong approach.
Why would Google ban you?
In the spirit of fair play and providing depth in its results,
Google frowns on duplicate content. Some web site owners
purchase multiple domains and copy their content for both
domains. They figure they may land the #1 and #2 positions that
way. That may be the company’s goal, but it’s not very valuable
for the Internet searcher. Even if you don’t maintain your
identical content with two or more domains, you can still run
into problems. It’s possible to update just one set of web
pages, but have them look like duplicates because of how the
domain names are administered. You may be risking everything if
someone enters www.yoursite2005.com/about.html and
www.oursite2005.com/about.html and they see the same content -
even if they pages reside in only one location. Many web site
owners redirect one domain to the next rather than configure the
server to associate the core content with a second domain name.
In many cases, a 301 redirect is your best bet. It’s a
server-side redirect most administrators can handle in a few
minutes. In effect, it’s a proper way of telling search engines
to ignore one domain and favor another. You may have many good
reasons for owning multiple domains, including brand protection.
Some companies get extra domains on the off-chance that someone
may simply try a domain name and see what comes up. A classic
example is 1-800-FLOWERS.COM. One of their domains is
www.1800flowers.com, but you can get there with www.flowers.com
as well.
The Bottom Line
If you secure more than one domain, redirect the extras to your
main web site (on the server) or use the extra domains for
unique content (showcasing a line of products of services).

The development of the Internet has lead to improvements in
many domains, including the food & restaurant industry. Now with
the help of web sites which are specialized in this domain,
everybody can read online menus of restaurants and know what
they have to offer before even visiting them.
Let’s pretend that you have a date with a ’special’ person, and
you want everything to be perfect…Wouldn’t it be great if you
could know exactly what restaurant is best for what you’re
planning? Well, reading some online menus and reviews of
restaurants would really help you a lot, wouldn’t it? Or, if you
are a restaurant owner, displaying online menus on the Internet
would give a little boost to your business, because more people
will know about your restaurant if they read about it and they
see online menus from it displayed on the Internet.
Displaying online menus and information about the restaurants
can also attract more costumers if they can register on the site
and receive some privileges in exchange, like reservations, home
deliveries, food, cooking and kitchen tips, or even some price
reductions for those who return on the web site.
Implementing a search engine in an online menus web site would
help the visitors easily find what they want. They should be
able not to search only for online menus, but also opening and
closing hours, prices or special events, so that they can search
for the perfect restaurant for them. Putting all these and
online menus on a web site are the perfect ingredients for
attracting many costumers.
In conclusion, signing a restaurant up on a site specialized in
online menus will improve the restaurant’s image and increase
its businesses, and it would also help the customers find
exactly what they are looking for by reading the online menus
and knowing ahead what quality service they can find at the
restaurant they decide to go to.
